Cary Police Sponsor Poker Event

I think I might know why they needed the poker tables and chips.... Thanks to Dena for finding this one!

Classic - I imagine there'll be a SWAT team, National Guard, ALE & ATF agents there to arrest anyone that shows up...

Well... to be fair, that is not a "poker" event.

I believe it's sort of a scavenger hunt where the riders go to different places and get a random card. After five stops, the rider with the best poker hand wins a prize.

At least that's how I understand it to be.

BTW, I think the poker bust was completely ridiculous. I could see a problem if they knew there were guns there... or there was a history of violence at the game. But they had an informant who attended at least two times and they confiscated NO guns the night of the bust!

I think law enforcement has more important things to do, don't you?

Well, after the way that some of my friends were treated that night, I'm not really interested in being fair at this point. But I agree, it's definitely not a poker tournament in the sense that we think of a poker tournament, but it is probably more illegal (in violation of 14-292 than the game that was busted in that the playing card portion of the event is totally a game of chance). It's my understanding from reading the flyer 2-10 times that you may purchase your first hand for $15 and any and all additional hands at $10 each. Your hand will be documented and at the end of the day, the person who was dealt the best hand wins $250 (which, by the way, the $250 is not much less than the 1st place winner would have won at the poker tournament which they busted). I feel certain that they will probably have some other (smaller) prizes for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc.,)

I also noticed.... with my keen intelect, that the lady's name in the bottom left hand corner of the flyer is surprisingly similar to one of the officer's names who was interviewed about the bust.

It's just interesting that when "the game" meets their purposes, they can hold it in the parking lot of the police department... what's up with that?

I say we all show up and protest the event - I think we could legally execute a citizen's arrest of every participant. Of course, that would be hypocritical and we would be definitely be out-gunned.

Some clever protest signs and a tip to the local news might bring some much needed publicity to our side of the cause.
