The BLOG!

Over the past couple of months and especially since we have become part of the Triangle Poker Journal, the number of hits on this blog site has increased by an enormous rate. We have also seen an increase in the number of "anonymous" comments on some of the posts. I am very excited about that, however the entire point of this blog is for us to entertain and learn from each other. Not that a few write, but that the group participate.

I am heading to the coast for a week's vacation.... I don't know if I'll find any poker games near Myrtle or not but I will be online some and am hoping that many of you who have begun reading regularly will start to contribute. I do plan on participating in the $220 poker tournament on the SunCruz Casino ship out of Little River and I'll be writing a review of it some time this next week.

The site is set up so that you must be INVITED to contribute a NEW POST. I want YOU to post! All you have to do is send an email to me at ncpokerblog@gmail.com and I'll send you the invitation and then just log in and share your thoughts on significant hands and poker news in general or anything about poker in the triangle. I will be putting together a guide to poker blog etiquette over the next week or so and you'll see it appear shortly. In the meantime, don't mention any specific games by location or be lewd, crude or socially unacceptable and post away!

I am hoping that you start today! Send the email to me now and I'll send you the invitation!

I haven't been on the Sun Cruz on awhile but the poker room mgr. Tony is a great guy. The room has 6 tables and spreads mostly 5-10 limit and occasionally 10-20 limit. I have never seen then spread any nl games. The 5-10 game is normally very loose and passive. It's a very juicy game. It's not unusual to see someone win $300-600 there in three hours which is crazy in a that time span for a 5-10 game. A lot of player playing any ace, any two suited cards, or any pair even deuces all the way to the river looking to hit a set. Big unsuited cards will get you in trouble in this game but sets, big flushes, and houses are usually paid off handsomely. Kinda like nl winning only a few hands in this game can make you a decent winner for the day. I really love limit and when I use to play 5-10 I really loved this game.

There are some downsides though to Sun Cruz. If you don't smoke you may be miserable. The entire boat including the poker room is smoking. At the very least your clothes will reek of smoke. The rake is atrocious. Just about every hand is raked $5. Most of the pots are large enough though to somewhat offset the rake. If this were a tight 5-10 game it would be unbeatable due to the rake. The last time I was there Tony had lost some of his better dealers and the ones he had were not that good. A couple were the worst I have ever seen. Nice guys but were constantly making mistakes and having to be corrected or helped along by the better players. They may not still be there though or Tony may have gotten them in shape. It seems like Tony likes to run a pretty tight outfit.

The other downside is the tournaments. They are fast as they have to conclude them in less than three hours. It's probably as bad or worse than an online turbo tournament. The blinds go up very fast (10-15 minutes?) and the starting stack is pretty small in relation to the blinds. Also Tony likes to accommodate everyone. If he has to I have seen him start a table with 12 or even 13 players. All in all I would say the tournament is pretty much a crap shoot. I believe they also have a Friday tournament for like $110. If I were going to play one of their crapshootastic donkaments it would probably be the Friday one.

LOL! I really should learn to proof read before posting. Sorry for some of my incoherent grammar jabber. I was trying to play online and write at the same time.

Thanks for the heads up... I've actually played the cash game there a year or two back when I was down at the beach and ran into another local player from Raleigh and we decided to give it a try.... we both won in the limit game and on the way out... he got really lucky at one of the casino games. Figures!

I'm looking forward to it though... thanks for the info!
