***** Bad Beats & Great Hands ***** Hello & welcome to our poker blog site of bad beats & great hands! Especially designed for people who love the game of poker. You are invited to share your stories with the group. Our typical group plays a mixture of hold 'em and omaha 8, but please post your stories from any games where wagering is involved and donkeys are plentiful. Let the suck outs begin!

Now I know you're hearing things, you senile old man. The only one you'll ever hear me call the clock on is J-Rod, when he's staring off into space, oblivious to the fact that the action has checked around the table and it's time for him to flip over the turn card. Aaaaaand occasionally Bill, who will stare at his hole cards for three solid minutes while deciding whether or not to call the $5 big blind in Omaha (which he has done every hand since August of 1994, by the way).
I must say that a few players have got awfully clock-happy lately. I just don't see what the big deal is. If you're the type of player who normally acts quickly, why should it be an issue if you take an extra 20-30 seconds those three or four times a night when you have a tough decision to make? Lately it's not ten seconds that go by before some goober shouts "Clock!"
The way I look at it, either 1) I'm not in the hand and it's none of my business, or 2) I'm in the hand and the other player can take as long as they need. That having been said, I'm not talking about chronic time-wasters. Of our group, the only ones that occasionally fall in this category are Bill, Jonathan, Michael and Dave. Most of the time it's because they're daydreaming, gabbing, or otherwise distracted, so the problem could be mostly eliminated if J-Rod took control and announced the action around the table.
While this would be a good thing for all involved, it would be especially good for J-Rod. After all, the more hands played, the more money he (and the house) stands to make. The rest of us are in a better mood with the game flowing faster, and are more likely to tip more as well. If it were me dealing, I'd have a damned cattle prod and bullhorn!
