WSOP

Ok, I need some help from those of you who eat, sleep, breath, and, oh yes, play poker. I'm heading to Vegas May 11th and I want to play in a couple satellites for the WSOP main event. What is the best way to find out where I can go to do so? I've been trying on-line with just a little success. Anybody have the answers? Thanks in advance. Matt

Hey Matt. If I were you I'd try the Rio or maybe one of the other Harrah's properties. You can access all their poker schedules online. I just came back from vegas and will be heading out again this week. I played T's at the Bellagio, Caesar's, Venetian. Didn't see any series sats yet. Thinking Rio is your best bet this early. By the way, Steve, who used to play at PKR, is one of the better dealers at Binion's (if you happen to be downtown and want to say hello). Mike

You may find a satellite at one of the Harrah's properties but there probably isn't much going on right now. The WSOP doesn't start until June 1st with the Main Event starting on July 17th. Most of the single and mulitable satellites won't start up until around then and then they will be ongoing day and night at the Rio. You may find some satellites around town but starting June 1st is your best bet. Most of the non-Harrah's properties won't be running many satellites. They want you to play there and not somewhere else. That being said the WSOP is a great time to be in Vegas as the other casinos have alot of player promotions trying to draw players into their cardrooms. Some are geared toward locals like freerolls that require you log a certain number of hours to play in. Other are more tourist friendly. Last year the Venetian which has the most beautiful card room in Vegas allowed any player who busted out of a WSOP event to bring their tournament entry card to the Venetian and play rake free for eight hours. There's alot of stuff like this going on.

As for regular tournaments there are some really good and some really bad daily tournaments in Vegas. In my opinion the best daily tournaments under $100 are at the Sahara, $100-$300 at the Venetian or Caesars, and $300-$1000 at the Wynn or Bellagio. Gotta love Vegas. There's something for everyone.
