Huge Benson Poker Bust Tonight

NC Alcohol Law Enforcement with help from the Johnston County Sheriff and the Highway Patrol busted approximately 80 people for gambling tonight in a building off Bear Road in Johnston County. The occasion was a $500 Hold’em poker tournament. Also present were roulette, craps, and blackjack tables. Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell said on WPTF radio earlier tonight the raid was initiated by the ALE who had had the place under surveillance for some time.
Unlike the Cary raid in March, no National Guardsmen, SWAT teams, helicopters, or automatic weapons were used. The whole event was described as “gentlemanly.” Police after entering the building asked players to put their hands on the table. After the scene was secured, each player was processed and issued a misdemeanor ticket for violating NC Statute 14-292 - gambling.
